The MOB Academy recognises the importance of providing the opportunity to improve the social, educational and employment outcomes of the young men, in particular those who have experienced challenges effectively engaging in school, education and/or training.
Upon enrolment all students discuss their individual MOB pathways plan in consultation with our teaching staff and parents in line with students’ interests, strengths and abilities. Students are given the opportunity to guide their own learning journeys, as well as enter into the workplace. These pathways will provide students with the opportunity to complete their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or have been identified to receive a Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA).
“At MOB Academy, we take pride in our commitment to student-centred decision making and are always looking for the best practice in all that we do, offering the best opportunities for our young men.”
This year, we have undertaken a comprehensive review of our subjects and programs, driven by our passion to provide our students with the finest and most engaging experiences possible. As part of this review and our evolving educational approach, we have realised the importance of not just academic progress, but also overall wellbeing and engagement.
To enhance and enrich the student journey at MOB academy, modifications have been made to our subject offerings to create a more holistic and enriching learning experiences for your young man. These changes aim to support individual growth and future pathways for our students. Student’s timetabled lessons will consist of the following:
MOB Success Course: Introducing an enhanced MOB Success course, a two-year journey featuring short courses in literacy, career development, Social and Community Studies, and unique social, emotional, and life skills. Students will experience a seamless integration of the classroom environment with pastoral care and rites of passage elements. Classes will have two teachers to help support and navigate the learnings and sharing with the boys.
MOB Adventure Course: Exciting outdoor and aquatic recreation opportunities in the Sports and Recreation subject. There will be a focus on physical fitness, teamwork, and fostering a sense of adventure among students. This will provide a platform for exploring new challenges, developing resilience, and connecting with nature and physical activities. This program is linked to the school’s adventure camp program. The MOB Basketball and Rugby League development programs will continue to run with renewed focus on innovative events, playing opportunities and sport specific camps.
MOB Metrics Course: Equips students with vital problem solving and analytical skills crucial for success beyond the classroom through the Essential Maths subject. This course ensures students can confidently address mathematical and financial challenges in real world scenarios. Our goal is to empower students to navigate workforce obstacles and make meaningful contributions to their chosen fields.
QCE Credits: The core student program over the two years will offer up to 14 QCE credits. There will be potential to incorporate a Certificate III over the two-year journey for additional credits, which could include access to TAFE options, VET courses, School-based apprenticeships and Traineeships, and Diploma of Business offerings. These additional options and courses will ensure if a student wishes to gain a QCE as part of their journey at MOB then they will have the opportunity to do so.
Courses for Year 12 2024 will remain the same as 2023.
