May marked Domestic Violence Prevention Month and at MOB Academy, we didn’t let it pass quietly.
For many of our students, domestic violence isn’t a distant issue. It’s something they’ve seen, lived through, or felt the impact of in their families and communities. So instead of skimming over it, we decided to meet it head-on with honesty, conversation, and action.
As part of our MOB Life program, our Year 11 and 12 boys took part in a 2km walk through the local area. It wasn’t a fundraiser. It wasn’t for show. It was a moment of purpose.
Before they walked, we made space for real conversations. We spoke openly about the fact that a lot of young men in our school have experienced domestic violence in some form. And we talked about the confronting reality that, statistically, men are the main perpetrators. It’s a hard truth — but naming it is part of taking responsibility.
This walk was about more than awareness. It was about ownership. About choosing to do something, together, in solidarity — not just for themselves, but for their brothers, their families, and the men they’ll grow into.
Between the two year levels, our students walked more than 256km. One step at a time, they made a quiet but powerful statement: we don’t have to repeat the past. We can be the change.
At MOB, we believe moments like these matter. They give our boys a chance to reflect, to stand up, and to move forward — not just as individuals, but as a community committed to something better.
