In a hands-on exploration of the construction industry, seventeen Year 11 and 12 students recently ventured onto the Hutchison Building Site in Labrador.
Thanks to a collaborative effort with Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ), these students gained practical experience in carpentry, painting, and tiling—essential trades within the construction field.
Under the guidance of experienced professionals, the students immersed themselves in the day-to-day activities of the construction site. From wielding tools to applying finishing touches, they gained insight into the diverse skill sets required in the industry.
Among the participants, MOB student Lars G’s standout performance caught the attention of site management. With a Cert II in plumbing, Lars demonstrated both aptitude and ambition. His proactive approach led to an interview opportunity the following day, reflecting the tangible outcomes of such immersive experiences.
We extend our appreciation to CSQ for facilitating this invaluable opportunity for our students. Through initiatives like these, young individuals gain firsthand exposure to potential career paths, empowering them to make informed decisions about their futures.
As we celebrate Lars’s achievements, we recognize the broader impact of initiatives that bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world experiences. Such initiatives not only equip students with practical skills but also foster a deeper understanding of industry dynamics and career opportunities.
We commend the collaborative efforts of all involved in organizing this enriching experience. By providing students with exposure to the construction industry, we are not only shaping potential career pathways but also inspiring a new generation of skilled professionals ready to contribute to the industry’s growth and development!
