Learning That Sticks: How Year 11 Adventure Is Building Skills That Last

Not everything from your school years sticks — but some lessons do.

This term, our Year 11 Adventure students at MOB Academy are doing more than just showing up. They’re stepping into something that will stay with them long after the term ends.

As part of their course, our young men are working towards a Certificate III in Sport, Recreation and Aquatics — a nationally recognised qualification that includes real-world skills like CPR, First Aid, Bronze Medallion in Surf Rescue, and Pool Lifeguard certification. These aren’t just boxes to tick. They’re skills that can save lives, build confidence, and open doors.

More Than Muscle

Through focused sessions in the MOB gym, our lads are learning the fundamentals of resistance training and recovery — from technique and safety, to how the body responds to effort and care. It’s not about lifting the heaviest weight. It’s about building the kind of strength that lasts: discipline, consistency, and ownership.

Thinking Beyond the Bench

This course isn’t just practical. Students are also engaging in the theory behind training — building their own programs, analysing performance, and learning how to apply what they know to real-life contexts, whether that’s in sport, work, or community spaces.

Real Skills, Real Responsibility

Thanks to our partnership with AMPD Academy, our students are now equipped with life-saving skills that extend far beyond the classroom. The energy and hands-on approach they brought to CPR and First Aid sessions made a real impact. These are the lessons that stick — the kind that can make a difference when it really counts.

A Pathway Forward

By the end of the course, students will have earned 8 QCE points and will have the opportunity to explore work experience placements in the sport and recreation industry. But perhaps more importantly, they’ll walk away with a better understanding of what it means to show up — for yourself and for others.

At MOB, we believe in learning that prepares you for life.
And this is what it looks like.
