Jamie’s Journey: From MOB Academy to Apprentice Carpenter at Varli Building

When Jamie graduated from MOB Academy, he didn’t just walk out with a certificate, he left with confidence, skills, and a network that would back him for the long run. Today, he’s an apprentice carpenter with Varli Building, putting in the hard yards and loving every minute of it.

“I love working in construction because of all the people you get to meet. You get so many different personalities, and it’s good, physical, hard work,” Jamie shared.

From bathrooms and cladding to concreting and even jackhammering, Jamie is quickly becoming a true jack of all trades. But it’s not just about the skills, it’s about belonging.

Elise, Operations Manager at Varli, has seen his growth first-hand.
“After just three months, the team has already noticed how much Jamie has grown. He’s confident in setting up for each day and contributes so much to the team. When you come into a crew this size, it’s not about standing out, it’s about fitting in—and Jamie has slotted right in.”

For Jamie, this opportunity has meant more than just a job.
“I feel a lot better about myself. It’s good to feel like a bit of an adult now. If I could say anything to the MOB team, I’d say thank you for making me a better man.”

At MOB Academy, we believe success comes when young men are given the right tools, support, and pathways. Jamie’s story is proof that with the right backing, our boys step out into industries they’re passionate about, with the skills and confidence to thrive.

Jamie’s journey is just one of many, and it shows how strong community connections create real opportunities.
